  • A Powerful DC Motor in a Small Size from Maxon.

    Maxon-RE8 Motors - Motion Control

Fall River, MA – With the introduction of the RE 8, maxon responds to the need for smaller and smaller drives. The motor has a diameter of 8mm, a length of 16mm and weights less than 4 grams. The motor shaft is as thin as pencil lead at only 0.8 mm in diameter and turns in two sleeve bearings. The shaft is ceramic and in some ways superior to a steel one, as its electrical insulating properties allow for a very compact commutator design. Precious metal brushes also ensure constant and low contact resistance between brushes and commutator, even after a pro-longed standstill.

The lightweight rotor has very specific advantages, such as low inertia and very fast acceleration. There is no magnetic detent and minimal electromagnetic interference. Maxon's ironless winding allows for greater efficiency and makes it highly suitable for network independent applications, such as lasers, leveling equipment or insulin pumps.

Planetary gearheads can be attached for certain applications where the given motor speed is too high and inertia too low. The modular system can also provide a sensor for detecting speed and position.

Comprehensive documentation and software are included with every delivery, and are also available for you to download from our website at www.maxonmotor.com.

High Power Linear Drive From Trust Automation, Features Pure Analog Throughput For Very High Brushless Motor Resolution
TA333 High Power from Trust Automation

San Luis Obispo, CA – The TA333 High Power Linear Drive is the newest addition to the Trust Automation line of high performance drives. The TA333 drive features a true Class-AB linear amplifier with pure analog throughput at currents up to 25A. Highly configurable, the drive can be used with a brushless motor using external sinusoidal commutation, with an internally commutated brushless motor with Hall Effect sensor feedback for smooth trapezoidal operation, a 2-phase stepper motor, or up to two voice coil motors. The drive is ideal for applications such as: “very high resolution” inspection systems, metrology instruments, and medical applications.

The TA333 is ideal for overcoming issues such as high inertia mismatched stages and low inductance motors. It is easily configured for three-phase DC brushless servo motors using Hall Effect sensors, three-phase AC brushless motors using external sinusoidal commutation, single-phase DC brushed servo motors in bridged mode, brushless linear motors and voice coil linear actuators. This flexibility allows motion system designers to easily integrate the latest developments in sinusoidal motor control and its benefits of zero cogging, no torque ripple, and smooth motion.

For applications requiring extremely low electrical noise the TA333 linear drive utilizes an external 24 VDC source of power for the internal logic. For applications, which are not as sensitive to electrical noise, an internal 24 VDC source can be used. The very low electrical noise of the TA333 linear drive makes it ideal for integration in or near systems that have noise sensitive circuitry, such as transducers and sensors. Also the audible noise problems associated with PWM Drives are eliminated and the typical hall “ticking” noise associated with Trapezoidal commutation is greatly reduced.

This powerful ±100 Volt, 25 Amp peak linear drive can be configured to interface with any motion controller with a ±10 VDC command output. High performance sinusoidal commutation systems require a motion controller with the capability to generate two ±10 VDC command signals. The third command signal is generated by the drive to maintain the highest level of precision. The TA333 can be set up to operate in trapezoidal mode using Hall Effect sensors as feedback. The drive also features DTS (Dynamic Transconductance Selection) control, which allows the transconductance (torque control) to be changed on-the-fly allowing very high resolution control without sacrificing power for resolution capability.

Compact, measuring just 14.9 in. (37.9 mm) X 7.7 (19.5 mm) X 4.7 (11.9 mm), the TA333 has integral thermally controlled variable speed forced air cooling, a housing designed to protect against operator injury, easily made connections using ribbon connectors, SMB coaxial connectors, and pluggable-terminal connectors, all demonstrating Trust Automation’s commitment to operator safety, quiet environment, and ease of integration.

Since 1990 Trust Automation has provided Smart Solutions in Motion Control and Affordable Customization of motion related products.

    Micronor Heavey Duty Encoder

New Heavy Duty Fiber Optic Rotary Encoder For Hazardous Locations From Micronor!

Newbury Park, California -- Micronor’s new MR316 ZapFREETM Fiber Optic Rotary Encoder is designed for heavy duty, industrial motor drive applications requiring high reliability, EMI immunity, ATEX compliance, IP66 ingress protection and even operation in extreme temperatures. The sensor is size 90mm and features large 12mm Æ shaft and extra heavy duty bearings and shaft seals. Together with the remote MR310 module, the ZapFREETM encoder system uniquely combines three functions in one - incremental encoder, multi-turn position sensor and tachometer. Typical applications include petrochemical plants, oil rigs, steel mills, aerial cable cars, cranes and hoists.

The MR316’s all-optical, totally passive design outperforms resolvers as well as conventional optical and magnetic encoders. Advantages include: wide operating range (-60°C/+150°C); outdistances copper cable; intrinsically safe and ATEX-compliant; immune to EMI/RFI and ground loops; unaffected by high magnetic fields; and radiation resistant. Mounting options include synchro clamps or panel mount.

The “passive” MR316 optically links to the “active” MR310 ZapFREETM Remote Encoder Interface (REI) Module via a single 62.5/125 multimode fiber link – up to 1000 meters (3280 feet) away. With its standard DIN-rail mount, the MR310 module is co-located with the PLC or other system interface electronics where power supply connections and conventional electrical interface connections are easily made. The module offers a wide range of standard interfaces: direct quadrature outputs (both push-pull and line driver), separate multiplier/divider quadrature outputs, two fully-programmable analog outputs (4-20mA and +/-10V), and PC-friendly RS232/RS422/RS485 serial interface. For custom applications, the MR310 firmware can be easily enhanced with additional functions and modes of operation to offload previous forms of remote processing for more efficient system operation.

Based on U.S. Patent 7,196,320, the ZapFREETM encoders utilize telecom-proven WDM (wavelength division multiplexing) technology by assigning each internal optical path (A or B) to a wavelength so that all wavelengths/paths can be combined onto a single fiber. It was deliberate to avoid the use of multiple fibers as this tends to drive up the cost of the optical harness. A single-fiber cable is inherently more cost effective and more reliable than any multi-wire or multi-fiber or hybrid cable assembly - and easier to handle and install as well. It just doesn’t get any simpler.

List Price is $1495 for the MR316 Standard Temperature sensor (-40°C/+80°C), $1794 for the MR316 sensor with Extended Temperature option (-60°C/+150°C) and $1995 for MR310 interface module. OEM discounts and educational discounts are available. Typical delivery is stock to 4 weeks ARO for most standard configurations.
